Ramming Forward (Levels 35-40): Brian Kopps' 1-70 Alliance Leveling Guide

Current Level: 40
Time to reach current level: 3 days, 1 hour, 29 minutes, 45 seconds
Deaths: 34 (22 due to ganking)

Things are definitely starting to slow down, but there are a few things that you can do that will make leveling less frustrating.

1) Again, you will be in STV for a portion of your leveling. This is where the majority of my ganking deaths occur. If you are easily frustrated by gankers, you may want to play at a less populated time. So if you were to play on a full server like Illidan, you may want to avoid playing during the weekday hours of 5 PM - 12 AM and on weekends.

2) If you are suffering from burn-out, then you may want to switch things up by leisurely playing another character. This way you don't feel like you are doing the same things over and over again.

3) For the "Reagents for Reclaimers Inc, Part 2" quest in Desolace, you need to gather 7 Scorpashi Venom and 3 Aged Kodo Hide. This quest alone took at least an hour or two for me, which is why I feel that Kopps could have done a better job helping you finish the quest as fast as possible. His instructions are to kill any scorpions on sight while traveling, because of a low drop rate. And if you reached a certain point without getting enough Scorpashi Venom, he tells you to kill scorpions in a specific area until you are done. The latter part is where I am the most disappointed with Brian. The area he tells you to kill scorpions is at the NW of the Kodo Graveyard. I found that this area only spawns 2 scorpions max and is difficult to navigate through because of the high mob density of the area. This leads me to expand the area I covered so I can kill 1-2 more scorpions. Not only is there very little scorpions to kill in this area, but the drop rates in this area are a mere 8% (according to Allakazam). This is what I would recommend you do for this quest.

As you are going through Desolace, you are going to be within the blue areas a lot. While you are within the blue zones, you should run out of your way to find scorpions and still be heading toward your final destination. Also, the scorpions within the blue area spawn more and have a higher drop rate of 15%. If worse comes to worse, you will be at the same scenario as I was except with a lot more Scorpashi Venom. I found that if I ran the route shown in red, I would find more scorpions which would increase my chances and time in getting the venom. You will notice that I have two different routes at the top, one cutting through and one going around. Once in a while, I would cut through in hopes of saving time but I would increase my chances of dying dramatically because of how many mobs are around. Notice that if you focus on getting the venom earlier on, you double your chances of getting one and you will avoid all the trouble that I had to go through near the end.

3) Several levels later, you will find yourself in Arathi Highlands doing "Deep Sea Salvage." These are one of those quests where you go somewhere to retrieve something important for the quest giver. Even though these quests are easy, they can be frustrating when you can't find what you are looking for. Things get interesting since you are going to be underwater while trying to find cleverly masked documents in a dark ship. If you are not a Warlock or a Shaman with underwater breathing abilities, I would recommend that you buy some Elixir of Water Breathing at the AH when you are in IF getting new skills. The pictures below should help you on your quest.

The Midpoint (Levels 30-35): Brian Kopp's 1-70 Alliance Leveling Guide

Current Level: 35
Time to reach current level: 2 days, 6 hours, 43 minutes, and 15 seconds
Total Deaths: 27 (15 due to ganking)

As you may have noticed, my deaths have gone up considerably compared to my other levels. This is due to both my inability to use all my hunter's abilities at my disposal like Feign Death and the increased amount of ganking. I was in Stranglethorn Vale for a short amount of time and was ganked 12 times. It is like Duskwood, but on steroids. Here are some suggestions for those following the guide:

1) For the "Agents of Destruction" quest in Ashenvale, you have to kill shredders, deforestors and scouts. The shredders and scouts are scattered around the area, but the deforestors are tricky to find at first. The deforestors are just like the peons "hacking" at wood, but they are in a bright teal color.

2) I mentioned this before, but this cannot be stressed enough. You will need to read ahead before you start following the guide. It will save you time, especially if you are not a hunter. There is at least one point where Kopp tells you to go somewhere and it is to tame a specific pet. Then, you go back to your normal leveling. If you are not a hunter, you can waste time by going somewhere to do nothing, just to go back to where you were.

3) By now, you should be accustomed to Brian Kopp's style of writing and be able to understand what he wants you to do. Even if the instructions are not exactly clear and precise.

4) In order to continually kill mobs one after another and still have sufficient mana, I have adopted a strategy to keep my Damage Per Second between 60-70 dps. This is the equilibrium that I have found to work best with my hunter. If I try to aim any higher, I would run out of mana too fast and would have to rest. This increases my downtime, which I want to avoid. You will need to test and see what works best for you and your toon. I use Mirage UI, which includes Titan Bar. Titan Bar has an option which shows your DPS per battle and overall session.

5) Your talent tree may be the most important part of your leveling success. Make sure you are just focusing only on one tree at this point. This way you will be able to maximize your leveling by being able to live longer, kill faster, heal better... etc. Your main focus should be on increasing your dps as much as possible. You can see my previous post about my hunter's talent tree.

Almost Half Way! (Levels 25-30): Brian Kopp's 1-70 Alliance Leveling Guide

Current Level: 30
Time to reach current level: 1 day, 14 hours, 30 minutes, 22 seconds
Deaths: 11 (5 from ganking)

Even though it is taking longer to level, I can safely assume that I will be able to reach level 60 within 7 days. I would have to take 4 times as long to level
another 30 levels to have a time of 6 1/2 days. Here are some tips if you are using this guide:

You are going to be in Duskwood for most of the time while you are at this level. If you are in a PVP server like me, Duskwood is a haven for Horde gankers. So try and avoid open roads as much as possible. If you are a hunter, be sure to have "Track Humanoids/Hidden" on most of the time. Also, make sure to keep a quest object named "An Old History Book" that is dropped by all mobs in Duskwood. Kopp tells you to turn it in right before you leave Duskwood, he should have mentioned this at the beginning of the Duskwood quest lines so you don't toss it to make room like I did.

Check Up (Level 20-25): Brian Kopps' 1-70 Alliance Leveling Guide

I reached level 25 within 1 day, 3 hours, and 46 minutes /played time. This time includes 12 deaths which include 5 deaths due to ganking. I can tell already that this guide makes my leveling go by so much quicker than my previous characters. The question I want to answer for everyone and myself is if I can level my dwarf hunter to 60 within 5-6 /played days. While you are using this guide, I would highly recommend that you print out each page and take notes. This will help you level even faster and more efficiently the 2nd, 3rd, 4th,... time around. Kopp also recommends that your character take up mining and skinning as a profession. Since I am following the guide word-for-word, that is what I am doing. However, I think if you are leveling an alt on the server, you should skip professions until you are levels 60-70. This is assuming you have gold on other characters to help you buy a mount and/or other necessities. Also, I have decided to update my progress every 5 levels now since it is starting to take much more time to level.

Next stop... level 30!

The Next Frontier (Levels 10-20): Brian Kopp's 1-70 Alliance Leveling Guide

Today, I reached level 20 in only 18 hours 15 minutes and 9 seconds on my dwarf hunter on the Illidan PVP server. This time, I died 16 times and made a couple silly mistakes. I figure that about an hour was wasted. Even though my time is not as fast as I want it to be, it represents how inexperienced I am with the game. If I can level character is this short amount of time, then anyone can do it too if not better. As I am using the guide more, I am developing my own tips for using Brian Kopp's 1-70 Alliance Leveling Guide.

1) Pay special attention to respawn rates, they can either be your best friend or your worst enemy.
2) If there are no more mobs to kill for your quest objective, kill other mobs that are around. This will influence how quickly the mobs, you want to kill, respawn. And you always want to continually gain experience.
3) If the guide mentions that you should be a certain level, grind mobs from your previous objective until you are that level.
4) Manage your mana/rage/energy efficiently. You want to kill as much as you can in the shortest amount of time. You want to avoid downtimes as much as possible.
5) Most important of them all: Do not rush yourself in reading/following the guide. You may miss something and regret it later.

Until next time, Almost Half Way! (Levels 20-30)...

First Impressions(Levels 1-10): Brian Kopps' 1-70 Alliance Leveling Guide

After finishing the first part of this leveling series, I have been pretty impressed by Brian Kopps' 1-70 Alliance Leveling Guide. As you can see from the screenshot shown above, I was able to reach level 10 within 4 hours and 2 minutes. There are several factors that I believe contributed to this time.

I am relatively familiar with the dwarf/gnome starting area, so that worked in my favor for most cases. I also have played a low-level hunter before. However, I did make mistakes and died 7 times along the way. I estimate that the mistakes and deaths cost me about 30 minutes.

A person would also be able to improve his/her leveling time by reading ahead and being familiar with the map. Brian also gives a lot of great information in his “Tips” section at the beginning of his guide. Brian does use coordinates throughout his guide, so having a coordinate mod is a must. However, I believe that the guide can be user-friendlier by telling you from whom you get the quests, instead of just telling you to “accept ‘Quest Name Here.’” It is hard to determine how effective the guide is so early in the game. But, the choice of quests are efficiently planned out.

Coming soon… The Next Frontier-Levels 10-20.

Preview: Brian Kopps' 1-70 Alliance Leveling Guide

I just got my hands on the Brian Kopps' 1-70 Alliance Leveling Guide so I decided to see if it is worth the money. Over the next several weeks, I am going to follow the leveling guide step-by-step to verify the validity of the leveling guide. I will be creating a dwarf hunter on the Illidan PVP server. Every 10 levels, I will update you with my status, along with my thoughts and screenshots for proof. Can I really get a character to level 60 in 5-7 /played days? Is it possible to have a level 70 character within 12 /played days?

Stay tuned for my results.
